Long Lasting Makeup

June 9th, 2010

Permanent makeup, also know as cosmetic tattooing is a technique which makes use of tattooing for producing makeup patterns over a person’s body permanently. It is mainly used for producing artificial eyebrows, for disguising scars, moles and other marks in the skin. The immediate result for this technique is similar to the one felt with the traditional cosmetics. However, on the long run, the tattoo may fade away gradually and hence the certain tattoos may require touch ups. This very fact contradicts the name ‘Permanent Makeup’ which has resulted in various issues in advertising the technique. This fading away of the makeup can be attributed to various reasons such as skin tone, exposure to sun light and other individual or environmental factors. As tattooing involves permanence, this technique has to be dealt carefully. Any imperfection may cause a lot of problems. These imperfections can be attributed to darkness, thickness, evenness and colour. This means that, skilled personnel are usually required to perform this technique. If there is a need for the removal of the makeup, one can make use of laser treatment, dermabrasion or surgical means. Just like the tattoos, permanent makeup is also very painful to remove.

IKEA Storybook Chair

June 9th, 2010

You might have come across people sitting on a chair and reading a book, but have you ever seen a chair that by itself has the shape of a book? Confused..?? Don’t be. IKEA has designed a chair, the cushions of which can be flipped over like the pages of a book. Named Selma and costing $350, this chair is belongs to the world famous IKEA PS collections.

The Swedish Furniture giant has turned this simple concept into a clever design. The chair has 5 cushions, of which two are firmly glued to the frame and the other three are attached to the frame with only one of their edges. This allows the cushions to be turned like the pages of a book. You can put the cushions either horizontally-flat or upright, thereby changing the comfort level. The cushion covers can also be easily removed, cleaned or replaced with other similar sized covers. IKEA has also given a Swedish touch to the design of the cushions. The cushions portray the history of the Swedish textile and fashion industry, and this makes the cushions look more like a story book than a chair.

Trendy Pendants

May 18th, 2010

Have you ever thought of making your own neck chain at home? A neck chain that is adorable, innovative, ingenious yet simple and affordable. With a little dexterity you can make a trendsetting, fashionable neck chain that will make people crane their necks.
You must start off with the snake chain. Selecting a snake chain shouldn’t be a difficult task. Either you could rip it from your old necklace or buy a new one from amazon or ebay. A new silver neck chain costs just a little over $10 but you should be careful in choosing the right length. Too long and the pendant could be concealed by your shirt, too short and it will choke you to death. The chain should ideally be around 15inch long. Once you select the snake chain, you should move on to designing the pendant.
To make a pendant, all you have to do is just look around. Look at all the tiny objects in your house and see if it could be used as a pendant. You could make one with the humble paperclip. Just string the snake chain through the paper clip and voilà, you have a trendy neck chain. You could also substitute the paperclip with the spare key of your car or apartment door. Else if you are gizmo freak, find ways to put a LED with a tiny button cell and string it using the snake chain. Keep innovating with new stuffs, and LED or paper clip, you’ll definitely set a new trend in your block.

Wedding Dress that Dissolves!

May 18th, 2010

What would you do to your Wedding gown on the night of your wedding? Of course, you remove it, but what would you do after that? You put it in a closet or in a trunk never to be worn again. So for all of you who think that this attire, which you might wear for a little under 10 hours of your life, is no use after your marriage, have something to cheer. You can opt for the all-new, new technology that is, wedding gown that dissolves in water.

Students at Sheffield Hallam University, England have designed a wedding dress that dissolves when you submerge it in water. Made up of biodegradable polyvinyl alcohol, this dress allegedly dissolves and transforms into 5 other fashion garments which you could wear later. The students wanted to prove that a woman can use her Wedding dress in a different form over and over again. This revolutionary garment is a marriage between art, tradition and technology and it can be customized to meet your requirements. Although it is costlier than the traditional $700 wedding gown, it comes with plenty of benefits. It won’t eat up cupboard space, it won’t be a use-only-once stuff and most importantly it does not go to the landfills. So it’s eco-friendly too.
But take caution before wearing this bridal gown. Call your local weather station and make sure there is no chance of any rain on your wedding day. Because rain on your espousal evening will dissolve your gown!!

Selection of shoes

May 18th, 2010

Proper selection of shoes not only makes you comfortable but also confident. The importance of shoes is more than its fashionable aspects. Different types of shoes are preferred for different ‘walks’ of life. Shoes form a big part of one’s image. In corporate world, especially, people are often judged by the shoes they wear. Hence, leather, lace-up or slip-on business shoes, which complement the attire for a professional meeting, are often preferred. Selection of shoes becomes indispensable, when we consider it from our safety point of view. For instance, ’snow shoes’ keep us going while making our way through icy terrains and ski slopes. They distribute the weight of the person over a larger area, thereby ensuring his/her safety. These are worn over boots and shoes and secured using straps. The prominence of shoes, when it comes to sports, is a well known fact. The athletic shoes, commonly referred to as running shoes or sneakers, are of utmost importance to an athlete, as they reduce the chance of injury and ensure better performance. Attributes of an athletic shoe include a flexible sole, appropriate tread for the function intended and ability to absorb impact. It is also interesting to note vital role played by the shoes in ballet dancing. ‘Pointed shoes’ , whose front end encases and supports the dancer’s toes, are preferred by the ballet dancers, for they enable them to dance on tip of their toes for extended periods of time.

Coordinating outfits

May 18th, 2010

While choosing the outfit for any occasion, it is better to coordinate the apparel with the occasion, weather, body shape and the colour requirements. While choosing a formal outfit, it is better to take up a dark suit with a light shade of shirt or vice-versa. Navy blue or black coloured suits are usually coordinated with the lighter shades of yellow, blue and red. Men usually prefer dark shades of Ties which matches with the shade of the shirt. Dark red, blue and brown are most sought-after. For women, a matching hand kerchief or a scarf is always in trend. While choosing attire for an informal occasion, the norms can be very much relaxed. The formal suits can be substituted with the cargo pants, jeans and baggy pants. A T-shirt (round necked or collar) can be substituted for the formal Blazer and shirt combo. Women can switch to skirts, gowns and other informal attires of their taste. The weather usually has an influence on the dress code. Light shades of costume are usually preferred on a sunny day while darker shades can be worn on a gloomy day. It is always better to have the attires tailor-made but it is an uncommon practice in the contemporary scenario where there is a trend shift towards ready-made attires.
